M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust awards $4 million to OHSU - Portland Business Journal:

The grant will go toward launchin g the biomedical engineering program within the new schoool of scienceand engineering, with immediate attentiobn on hiring additional faculty and launchingt interdisciplinary research that capitalize s on opportunities for collaboration among both OHSU's and OGI's existing investigators in several fields. OGI Presidenf Ed Thompson predicts that durintg the next 10 years the new schoolp will nearly double its existing funded researchto $30 millio n a year, will significantly increase student enrollment beyond today's 580 students and will add 35 additionalo faculty for a total of 95.
OHSU's name will be changex to Oregon Health and Science University followingthe merger. The facilituy currently includes schoolsof dentistry, medicine and nursing, five researcgh institutes, two hospitals and their clinics, and approximatel y 200 public service programs. The merger is slated for July 1, contingentf upon approval by theOregon Legislature.
